Busy First Saturday

November 3 features several fun activities for Scott Valley:

  • SHOPapalooza Vendor Fair – 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Parish Center in Fort Jones. Free admission.
  • Ninth Annual Art Show and Sale – 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Etna United Methodist Church. $3 per person or $10 per family suggested donation for admission.
  • BBQ Pit Dinner – 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Scott Valley Grange.
  • Cattlemen’s Dinner – 5:30 p.m. at the Yreka Community Center. $20 presale tickets. Call President Cliff Munson 530 467 3403.
  • Cowboy Poetry & Music – 7 p.m. at the Avery Theatre in Etna, CA. $12 tickets in advance at Scott Valley Bank branches and $15 at the door.

Go Nuts for Girl Scouts

Support Fall Nut, Magazine, Candy Sales

Help Scott Valley Girls Scouts raise money for fall and winter projects through the Annual Fall Nut and Magazine Sale! Just in time for holiday gifts and entertaining, girl scouts are selling tasty new dark chocolate mint penguins, blueberry pomegranate nut crunch, salsa mix, chocolate toffee almonds, your favorite print and digital magazines, and more from through November 21. Scott Valley Christmas Community Choir

The choir will perform several numbers at the Etna Fire Department Fundraiser on December 1.

  • First group practice – Sunday, Oct. 28 at Etna LDS Chapel at 5 p.m.
  • Second group practice – Sunday, Nov. 18 at Etna LDS Chapel at 5 p.m.
  • Other practices as needed

Scott Valley Food Summit

A Scott Valley Food Summit will be held from 3-6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8 at the Fort Jones Community Center, 11960 East St. This summit is free and open to the public. It will be presented by Etna Farmers Market and Rockside Ranch, CSA Cooperative to discuss the purpose of growing the economy by link­ing farms to businesses, to increase the value of ag land, increase the value of crops, to build the community around the table, explore “cottage food industry” oppor­tunities and keep local dollars in Siskiyou County.

Veterans parade in Etna

Come to Etna on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. for a parade to honor all veterans. The Grand Marshal of the parade to honor all veterans will be John Fain of Etna. Chili and hot dogs will be served for the veterans. Come by and say thank you to Scott Valley’s proud veterans.

Fort Jones Lions emergency firewood program

The Fort Jones Lions Club is continuing its program of providing one load of firewood dur­ing the winter to qualified citizens who are residents of Scott Valley and who are unable to obtain their own supply.

The program is intended only as an emergency measure for those in dire need of wood to tide them over until they can procure a long-term solution.

Scott Valley Branch Libraries

The monthly Preschool Story Time Program is in its third year in Scott Valley. The Fort Jones Lions Club is supporting this program by providing the funds to purchase books to give away to the Fort Jones Union Ele­mentary/Even Start School and Koinonia Preschool children at the end of each month during this school year. They are also providing a volunteer reader to visit the Koinonia Preschool for Story Time each month. The Etna High School Interact Club is supporting this program as well, proving the funds to purchase books for Etna and Forks of Salmon preschool children and a volunteer reader to visit the Etna Preschool for Story Time each month. The children love listening to stories, getting the books each month and taking them home to share with their families.

Troy Meeder Men’s Retreat

The Scott Valley Berean Church is hosting Troy Meeder, husband of Kim Meeder who spoke in the valley in March, for a men’s one-day retreat on November 17th from 9 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. Donation of $25 include continental breakfast, lunch and bbq dinner. Turkey Trot

Coming November 22, 2012 at 9 a.m. at Hamlin Gulch/Eastside Road!

Each year Etna and Fort Jones Elementary host a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day morning. This is a fundraiser for the student bodies at each school.

Events include a 6 mile run or a 3 mile run/walk. All participants are eligible for age category prizes and raffle prizes. Snacks and hot beverages are provided to all participants and the first 300 registered runners/walkers will receive a nice long-sleeve t-shirt.
