Episode 368 – June 5, 2015

Serena and Megan keep having fun at their mics talking about all things Scott Valley. Listen for Brigadoon – a funny recurring theme. Also, learn how to cook turnips. There is a trivia question near the end of the podcast. The first person to email the correct answer to news@goodmorningscottvalley.com gets a free soft-serve cone at Dotty’s. These girls are random and they seem pretty happy about it all.

Etna Art Student Inspires Local Artists

Nina Nicholson: Tim Burton (detail), 2012, acrylics on canvas shoe. Private collection.

When the Etna High School Art II students were honored at the Marble Rim Gallery First Friday event in May the exhibit that caught everyone’s eye was an embellished tennis shoe by Nina Nicholson. She had painted scenes and characters from Tim Burton’s “Nightmare Before Christmas” on a pair of sneakers. By the end of the evening all of the artists were excited about shoe art.

As a result the Marble Rim Gallery will hold their first themed exhibit, “A Really Big ART SHOE”, on August 3rd from 6 pm until 8pm. The shoe art will include work in all of the various mediums represented by the diverse talents of the members and other artists in community. There will be shoes with painting, paintings of shoes, wood-turned shoes, photographs of shoes, sculptures of shoes, jewelry with shoes, gourd shoes and, of course, metal shoes.

Hot-foot it on down to the “First Friday Open House” in Fort Jones on the evening of August 3rd to view the results of this focused frenzy . This will be an opportunity to see new and original artwork while enjoying sole food and lively music by local DJ, Shane Gottlieb.

The Marble Rim Gallery is a non-profit cooperative and a fiscal project of the Siskiyou Arts Council. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm.  For more information regarding the gallery, artist members, or upcoming events call 468-5442 or visit our website atwww.marblerimgallery.org and our newly created Facebook page.
