Scott Valley Libraries’ Summer Reading Program

Dream Big READ!

  • Sign-ups start Monday, June 11th at the Etna and Fort Jones Libraries.
  • Come in to establish your reading goal and receive a reading log, book mark, and stickers.
  • Bring in reading logs each week to be entered in weekly drawings.
  • Reaching the halfway point to your goal earns you a personal pan pizza, courtesy of Round Table Pizza.
  • Turn in completed reading record by September 6th to be entered in the raffle drawing to win various prizes.
  • Raffle drawing time and place to be announced later.

Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts Summer Program

SPAC will debut a summer program taught by J.J. Lewis-Nichols for acting, directing, playwriting, and singing for Broadway which may lead to year-round classes. The purpose of this program is to instruct children, teens, an adults who are serious about learning their craft.

Tuesdays at SPAC are for kids 7-13 years from 1-4:30pm; ages 14-adults from 6:30-10pm. Thursdays will be at Ft. Jones City Hall (times are the same). Each age group can attend 2 classes per week.

A preliminary meeting will be held on Saturday, April 28 at 1pm at SPAC to sign up for all who are interested in both age groups. Acting will include Shakespeare and the infamous ‘triggers.’ ‘Singing for Broadway’ includes correct breathing and ‘acting the song in character.’

These classes are free. Ages 7-10 need to be accompanied by an adult. J.J. has a BFA degree in ‘Acting’ from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. She appeared twice on Broadway, and in national tours, film, Soaps, and TV commercials from 1969-1981. Currently working on her 107th production in 30 years in Siskiyou County, she is SPAC’s Artistic Director. The program starts the week of June 11 and ends mid-August. Scott Valley Lions Scholarship

The Scott Valley Lions are accepting applications for their Ruth Wilson Memorial Scholarship through June 30, 2012. This $500 scholarship is available for a continuing student who is either an Etna High School graduate or a current resident of Scott Valley who has been out of high school at least one year.
