Program on the Dorleska Mine

On Saturday, April 21, 2012 the Siskiyou County Museum will be visited by the Trinity County Historical Society and they will be presenting their program on the Dorleska Mine.  The program will take place at 11:00 a.m. in the museum conference room.  The program is free of charge.  The Dorleska Mine has a unique history; it is located in the Trinity Alps Wilderness and remains of the mine can be seen today.  Seating is limited in the museum so we suggest making reservations in advance by calling the museum at (530) 842-3836.

Lunch will be available following the program, and we will enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, cookies and beverages.  The lunch will be $6 and reservations for lunch are required.

We hope to see a full house for this event; the program on the Dorleska Mine is very interesting and has an exceptional history.  We know you will enjoy the presentation!

Local Art and Live Music at Ft. Jones Street Fair

The sun should be shining as popular local musicians play and talented artists display and sell their creations at the Marble Rim Gallery’s 6th Annual Artisan Street Festival on Saturday, May 19th, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Scott Valley Bank parking lot off of Main Street in Fort Jones. The Festival will feature artisan booths, incredible live music by local award-winning musicians, barbecued all-beef hot dogs and polish dogs, cotton candy, and a raffle with amazing hand-crafted prizes worth nearly a thousand dollars!

The Marble Rim Gallery is a fiscally-sponsored project, and operates under the non-profit umbrella, of the Siskiyou Arts Council. The artisan booths and the Marble Rim Gallery will offer a wide variety of original creative works for sale including: photographic art, pine needle baskets and woodturning, watercolors, many types of jewelry, painted and wood-burned gourds, fabric and wood crafts, fishing spinning lures, colorful tie dyed items, hand-crocheted and knitted creations, pottery and many other crafts.

Scott Valley Bank has continued its helpful tradition of offering artists the use of their parking lot for the Festival. Alan Kramer of Etna once again has generously donated his excellent sound system for use by the musicians — all of whom have also kindly donated their time and incredible talent for this year’s Festival. The line up of local musicians for this year’s festival is outstanding. Featured musicians in the order they will perform include: The Vagaries (Annie Kramer, Annie Rosemeyer and Carolyn Hews); Mike Slizewski and Rob Eller; Susan Houg, singer/songwriter; Greg Lindholm, on the keyboard; and Jen and Craig Thompson, singing and playing guitar.

The Marble Rim Gallery also is selling raffle tickets for many fantastic original artistic and handcrafted pieces donated by their artisan members. All of the drawing prizes with their designated dollar values are on display, and tickets may be purchased at the Marble Rim Gallery at 11835 Main Street in Fort Jones. The Gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets may also be bought at the food booth of the Street Festival at the cost of $1.00 each or six for $5.00. The drawing will be held at 4:00 p.m. at the Artisan Street Festival. Winners need not be present to be eligible for prizes. For further information call the Gallery at: 468-5442. Bring the whole family to support your local artists and musicians while enjoying a fantastic Saturday in Fort Jones on May 19th!!
